Once upon a time, there was a washerman who owned two donkeys. While one of them was over energetic, over enthusiastic, the other was a normal donkey that would walk and carry load as much as a normal donkey can or should.
The washerman was always very angry with the normal donkey, because he would compare him to the over energetic donkey.
One day, crying after being punished by the master for being too slow, the normal donkey told the energetic donkey, "My friend, we are just the two of us here, why compete? Let’s carry equal load and normal speed."
The energetic donkey found that ridiculous, and tried even harder to feel good about himself. He told the master he can carry more load than before, and still walk faster.Obviously elated at the energetic donkey’s enthusiasm, the master shoved more load on to him and the donkey carried it with a smile, while the normal donkey was being kicked and abused throughout the journey.
The normal donkey tried to walk as fast as the energetic donkey, but eventually collapsed. The energetic donkey then volunteered to lift the weak donkey’s weight. For a while he did, but after a while started to feel the pain, and it slowed down. The washerman got very angry, and started abusing the energetic donkey. He shoved more load on to him, and ordered him to walk as fast as before. The donkey couldn’t.
Frustrated and angry, the washerman eventually killed the energetic and enthusiastic donkey, and went searching for other donkeys.
