Tonnes of hash

So, you thought no way in hell anyone would think of smoking up in this country. I mean come on... it's Qatar after all. Qatar, Saudi, Oman... they're all the F*&^ing same.
Ghanta.
Everything happens here. Everything. Only, it isn't as visible as it is in other countries maybe.
Just day before yesterday, the cops caught tonnes and tonnes (they did not reveal figures) of hash being smuggled into Qatar through sea.
The demand's obviously there. There are people who smoke up and it does happen.
Everywhere it does.
What if you're caught? Nothing man, if you're unlucky they'll whip you, which is unlikely. They stopped whipping people a few years back. They'll just deport you back to your country. That's it.
So please, sitting back there in India, or the US, or UK thinking if you stare at a girl out here they'll pop your eyes out, or if you're caught drinking alcohol they'll execute you, and they'll bloody behead you if you're even caught near a hash ball thrown around... please... stop thinking crap.
If things were only a little more cooler in Qatar... just a little more, there'd be raves everywhere. In the dunes, near the blue sea...
It's what Qatar doesn't want. They don't want to liberalise so much that it boomerangs on them. They know everything's happening. But they want to keep the fear in the people alive.
Good move, I say.
And no, the smugglers will not be executed, I am sure. I really want to see what happens to them.
Some say Qatar never executes on Qatar soil. They take them across the border and hand them over to Saudi, which happily beheads the 'sinner' for Qatar. But I don't know how far this is true.
I don't think Qatar thinks this is a big deal really. Nor do the newspapers. It's a very small news item on the front page. No one's making too much noise about this.
Seems like its really not as big a deal as we all make it out to be -- drugs in an Islamic nation.
Big f*&^ing deal.

Hmmm... I agree...
But its not their fault. That's how they've been brought up. So many Qataris in the country drink. So see... they're doing it, but they can't be open about it coz they'll get screwed. They get other people from other nationalities to buy it for them. But things are changing. They'll change. Sadly, I won't be here to witness it...
I got better things to do with my life than wait for Qatar to change.

Change is the only thing permanent dude. in ure persective qatar still has to change. but ask anyone who has been here for more than 2 years. all of em will tell u that qatar was completely diff 2 years ago. quite honestly im quite enjoyin watchin the process. in contrast it beats anyone back home sayin "fuck, this place will never change"

Awesome people... I'm glad you guys are starting your blogs. You wanna revolt, right arro. Lets revolt.
Sure Qatar was different 2 years ago, and it'll be different 2 years later. Qatar's growing up, like anyone of us. It has to change... It's just been born.
When they say "this place will never change" they mean, this place will take really long to change, even though its changing really fast.

fuck gadarene --- u r so god damn right. I coulnd't agree with you more.
But there's also another truth. There is this new generation - the younger one, which thinks a little differently. They're confused at the moment - they're confused between religion --- what their people shout out from roof tops, and what they're seeing on TV - the western channels - or when they go on holidays to the US or UK...
right now they're confused big time - they're being pulled in two different directions...
They';re pretty fucked right now. But the next generation, will be even easier than this one... and the next evn more easy... thats how things change pal... generation to generation.

gadarene i do agree with the takenn for granted bit... and thats how we all find connection here. the reason y most indians connect here is cause of that link that they lost with everyone back home. in all honesty i do miss everyone back home and do miss the freedom back home..... but...
the question i keep askin myself is do i wanna go back to the rat race that is india. does anyone else wanna go back???
or have i/we found a little bit of solace in this virgin land called qatar?
do we/i subconsciously think that there is hope in the change? that it may actually work in our favour?

i woulndt go so far as calling us spies... more like opinionated realists. but i do aggree with the fact that blogs are a success story. i only recently started bloggin and have realised its a vent for my frustation. somehow when u find like minded people everything around u becomes very comfortable.

It is interesting how societal norms and perceptions can differ greatly.
