There's a twist in the tale my friends. And it just got even funnier. I can't stop laughing. This country will just not stop surprising me it seems.
About the story (post below) of Assistant Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department for techinal Affairs, Colonel Mohamed A al-Malki saying yesterday that "Allowing women to drive has doubled the problem of traffic jams in Qatar," there's been quite a reaction.
Apparently, a fuming HH Sheikha Mozah Nasser al-Misnad, the Queen, or someone from her office called up al-Malki and asked, what the 'f' are you talking about??? Are you in your senses???
He he he.
And mind you Her Highness has been instrumental in the evolution of women in Qatar - she's the the key person who encouraged women freedom here by letting them work and drive etc etc, which is so not the case in Saudi Arabia, where women, no matter from which country are not allowed to drive or work.
According to al-Malki, who by now all the women in Qatar are cursing, he did not say that.
Hawwwwww. That was a bloody ministry press release published as it is!
He he he.
Al-Malki has an explanation for this too. He said, I gave the presentation in English, and the ministry person doing the release was doing it in Arabic, and that's where the screw up happened. He said, all he said was that the number of women driving in qatar had gone up.
Poor guy.
Now for a lesson. Mr. Governments... how about reading and re-reading the press releases you send out, instead of making your speeches and then rushing off for your 1 pm siesta?!
Eh?
