Another reason why its hard

You how tough it is here to get stories? Very tough. Ok, stories are there. They're everywhere. Qatar's no different. Simple stories, basic stories, which can be written in different ways 117 times - features.
But the bloody point is, despite the fact that you know the story, it's hard to write. You feel it. Why?
Because the people, the officials here, who you need a quote from, answer in Monosyllabals. It's not like Ravi Shastri interviewing Sourav Ganguly during a presentation, when Ravi goes, "Good match today." And Ganguly just starts off about everything.
Here in Qatar...
"It must be a great feeling, to win the dhow (boat) sailing races?"
"Yes."
"Is it for the money - the urge to compete, to win?"
"No."
"You think Qatar has a chance of winning?"
"No."
"It seems like its gonna be a great show tomorrow."
"Yes."
"How did this tradition of dhow sailing competition actually start?"
"Pearl Divers, when they used to come back, they would race back."
Aaah... how cool! Can't you give me longer answers LOOOOOOOSEEEEEERRRRRRRSSSS.

I have spent a fair bit of time in recent months talking with companies about how to embrace blogging as part of their marketing strategy.

i quite expected that ure interview might go this way. probably mustav been a language barrier. it happens quite often. difficulty to explain in english. or might just say the wrong thing like the AD of traffic and his slur on women.

maybe the guy just got lost in translation...

1stly, please include word verification on your comments, so you dont get these spam comments.

2ndly, maybe you should pick up a bit of arabic. Language can be a real barrier at times. Or maybe... these people just dont feel comfortable speaking to a "foreigner"?

No I will not use word verification. I know how irritating it is when i gotta comment on blogs with word verification.

Yes, I know if I learnt Arabic it would be far far easier for me. Everything - the stories, the breaking the ice... the knowledge...
It could come off as a lame excuse, but when I say it, it holds water. This country really really demotivates you from doing anything - from taking that extra step.
It sounds really really sad that i keep saying this, when really I should be doing things on my own, for myself, not wait for motivation from others or other things to inspire me.
But when you come to Qatar, you'll really know what I am talking about. You look around you, and you don't even feel like eating food... coz people are so god damn lazy. They make you lazy and laidback too.

lol.. this is really funny! The only respite I used to have in my sparse reporting was you ask one small question and they'll give you at least two paras of quotes. Poor you!
