This might sound really trivial, but just think for a minute. Can you think of any word(s) which have the letter 'Q(q)' without being followed by a 'U(u)'?
Probably Qatar is the only one.
Did some research on this and found out there are indeed a few non-'Qu' words that have reached English from other languages.
Qadi - a Muslim judge
Qanat - an irrigation channel
Qasida - an Arabic or Persian poem
Qawwal - a qawwali devotional singer
Qawwali - Muslim devotional music
Qibla - the direction towards Mecca
Qigong - a Chinese system of physical exercises
Qin - a Chinese musical instrument
Qintar - a monetary unit of Albania
Qwerty - the standard layout of typewriters and keyboards
Tariqa - the Sufi method of spiritual learning
Any more?

Qasar (although I think that's spelt with a K)
Qasoor (or is that Qusoor?)

I'll answer that Qatar question (as a Qatari).
Qatar could mean drops or droplets.
Bahrain means, two seas.
The shape of Qatar does indeed look like a droplet.
