Question: Supposing you own a bar. And for some strange reason it turns into a major pick up joint with whores, only whores, for girls hanging around everywhere looking for customers for the night, and of course the clientel becaomes the kind which comes there only for these chicks, if not pick them up for the night, at least feel them up while they're negotiating the price. And then one day you stand up and say, I wanna clean this place up. How would you do it? Eh?
Sure, you could just stop the whores from entering. But then the business you're gonna lose out on will be unimaginable.
One, regular, normal women don't come to your bar because everyone knows it's filled with whores all the time. They'd rather go to normal nightclubs where women are respected, hit on, drooled at, sure, but still, where aged foreigners won't slide their hands on the women's butts and ask how much for the bight baby.
So when you stop the whores, your bar becomes almost like a gay bar, with just a few sad looking men sitting around at the bar hoping, man, at least let one of the chicks in. It becomes a really sad scene.
Two, the men, who came there and drank their asses off trying to get a lay for the night, or dancing around with the whores, or feeling them up, or asking one to get one more for his friend sitting next to him, stop coming there. Obviously, they don't wanna come to your bar and stare at some sorry looking humans from the same sex.
Ok. The Oasis - that's the bar I'm talking about. Though many many totally disagree, The Oasis, with all the 'looking for sex' crowd and the whores is my favorite bar to hang out in Qatar. Most woulnd't go there because they might think it's below their status. Or either they just can't be in a bar without normal girls in there who at least have a chance of being charmed without you really showing how much money you got in your pocket.
Sure, there are better clubs in Doha, but there's something about Oasis that takes me back there again and again. The place has some colour. Something. It's like a bad boys hangout. You got the booze, the pool table, the women tryin to give you sneaky smiles, brushing past you every now and then, mind you, some of them are really hot as well. A few. Chinese, all of em.
I'd never pay for sex. Niether would John, or so I'd believe. But we still like to go there. There are the weirdos, but hey, we've met some really amazing people there too. It's easy at Oasis to make out the half decent ones from the chutes.
In other clubs, well, everyone's mostly pretending or faking it, putting on a face that isn't really their own. But not at Oasis.
Now finished with explaining what Oasis means to me, the new thing is that Oasis is trying to clean up and turn itself, though it will happen, I think, very very gradually, into a regular club, to which regular women come with their boyfriends and friends and stuff. You know, regular women. Whether or not they're slutty, at least being a slut shouldn't be their profession.
It's gonna be damn hard, damn fuckin hard, to change certain people's set ideas and lure them into what they think is a "whore joint".
Oasis realised this, but still, they're hell bent on starting slow and steady, yet, keep a wee bit of their business, which was earlier flourishing, alive. What they've done is banned the Chinese women from entering, unless accompanied by a male.
Take em inside, say the security guards, sit with her, feel her, but if she finds a customer inside, unless it ain't you, let her go.
Oasis doesn't get crowded anymore. John hates the fact that they've started this.
"This is a bad boys club maan," he says. "We need one of these in Qatar. Like the Wild Wild West maan."
I don't think he's completely wrong, even though, I think it's a bold step. There has to be a way to clean up any mess you make right? There's always a way out isn't there.
yes, it's gonna take a whole load of time, and I also think Oasis, if they're doing this, they should try and have some theme parties as well, bring down booze prices by half, get a good DJ, advertise, market. Get the damn good crowd inside.
Slowly the word shall spread. Coz it's got whatever it takes to have a nice club, it's got huge space, huge bar, bar stools, dance floor, a good system (could be better though)... yep... slowly the word will spread, and you'll have far younger, far prettier crowd grroving in there. I can bet my arse on that.
Till that day comes, it's back to beer and peanuts in an empty, sad, crying and craving for women bar.
Women - just one enters... just one, and it brings a smile to the entire place.
Women.
Sigh.

oasis... YUCK!
Shut up...
Like I said people... the "many many" include this bugger as well... he is what I meant by many many.
He's vain, I swear. Creative, sure, yet, vain.
the one time i wasnt vain was when i entered oasis... god.. i hope no one saw me there....
I did... I saw you there.
This place you talk abt sounds like the dregs man.. but you know there's something abt dregs that attracts me too..somehow its more real, less plastic than other places..where you can read someone's story just by looking at their faces..Where you go and where you hang out does not reflect who you are.. does it? If I ever get to Qatar ( probably in my next lifetime) I'll drop by thats for sure..;-)
